F.A.Q.'S

Q/ Why plan a Destination Wedding?
A/ There are many reasons to choose a destination wedding. A destination wedding allows the guests to travel somewhere fabulous, where they can also enjoy a relaxing vacation; as opposed to asking guests to book a flight and hotel in a less exciting hometown Many couples decide upon a destination wedding as they are from different areas of the country, and do not want to decide against one hometown for another, so they opt to go to a location that will be somewhere special to each of them.

Q/ How far in advance should I plan my destination wedding?
A/ Destination Weddings involve travel arrangements, and therefore the "save the date" invitations should be sent out at least 4 - 6 months in advance. This is to allow the guests to properly budget and plan for the trip, and to make sure that they are able to obtain reservations.

Q/ How long do we have to be at the resort before we can get married?
A/ For civil ceremonies 3 business days prior to wedding date are required. For religious ceremonies 2 business days prior to the wedding date are required.

Q/ What are the legal requirements when getting married in Playa del Carmen?
A/ Mexico's Government requires the following documentation at least 48 hours before your wedding ceremony:

  • Valid passports
  • Blood test (to determine blood type, HIV and STD). Tests must be taken at Playa del Carmen, results are ready within 24 hours.
  • Tourist cards (provided by customs upon your arrival to Cancun International airport).
  • 4 witnesses (with their valid passports and tourist cards)

Q/ Are weddings performed at The Blue Parrot legal in the United States?
A/ Yes. Civil weddings performed in Mexico are legal in the United States. Please contact your nearest courthouse to find out more information on registering your marriage certificate and obtaining information on whether or not your state requires you to translate the marriage certificate to English.

Q/ What happens if it rains on my wedding day?
A/ We always have a back up plan, we will provide a covered area (facing the ocean) for your wedding ceremony. Our three venues for dinner-receptions are covered.
